Market Advisory Council

As established by the Common Fisheries Policy, the MAC provides advice to the European Commission and EU Member States on matters relevant for the market of fishery and aquaculture products.

The MAC is a stakeholder-led organisation composed of representatives of the entire seafood value chain (primary producers, processors, traders, suppliers, retailers, trade unions) and other interest groups (environmental and development NGOs).

Work

An annual work programme is prepared by the Executive Committee, in cooperation with the European Commission, and approved by the General Assembly

Following requests from EU institutions or proposals from members, advice is prepared by one of the three Working Groups and is latter put forward for consideration and adoption by the Executive Committee. The MAC strives for consensus in all drafts.

Meetings are periodically organised to undertake this work. Reimbursement is provided.
