Informal meeting with MARE A4 (Markets)
On 2 May 2024, our Chair Yobana Bermúdez Rodríguez, our Other Interest Groups Vice-Chair, Christine Absil, and our Secretary General Pedro Reis Santos held an informal meeting with Unit A4 (Economic Analysis, Markets and Impact Assessment) of DG MARE.
The main aim of the meeting was to introduce our Advisory Council to the new Head of Unit, Mr Sven Langedijk, building on the close working relationship between the MAC and A4, as the main policy Unit in DG MARE on fishery & aquaculture market matters.
It was an opportunity to present our functioning and procedures, our membership, our consensus-based approach, our most recent recommendations, and ongoing work. Mr Langedijk also agreed to a formal exchange at the next meeting of our Executive Committee, which will take place on 5 June 2024.
Information note about the MAC:
As foreseen by Article 43 of the Common Fisheries Policy Regulation, the Market Advisory Council (MAC) provides advice to the European Commission and EU Member States on the market of fishery and aquaculture products. The MAC is composed of organisations representing the entire value chain (primary producers, processors, traders, suppliers, retailers, trade unions) and other interest groups (environmental and development NGOs). The MAC is co-funded by the EU.
