SUMMARY:Workshop on Voluntary Sustainability Claims on Seafood Products
DESCRIPTION:The Market Advisory Council (MAC) is one of the eleven Advisory Councils that provide the European Commission and EU Member States with recommendations on fisheries management matters under the Common Fisheries Policy. The MAC is composed of 59 members, representing the entire seafood value chain as well as other interests groups, from 11 Member States and provides recommendations on matters relevant for the EU market of fishery and aquaculture products.\nOn July 13-15, the MAC will be organising a Workshop on Voluntary Sustainability Claims on Seafood Products. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together members of the MAC, institutions and external experts in a constructive exchange about how voluntary sustainability claims on seafood products, including ecolabels and certification schemes, interact with the EU seafood market. The workshop outcomes are intended to aid the European Commission in assessing the situation and to help provide guidance to inform any further steps.\nThe event will take place as a series of webinars with interpretation available in English, French, and Spanish.\nWorkshop Programme:\n MAC Voluntary Sustainability Claims on Seafood Products – Programme – July 2020 MAC Voluntary Sustainability Claims on Seafood Products – Panellists \nMinutes:\n Workshop on Voluntary Sustainability Claims on Seafood Products (13-15 July 2020) \nPresentations (Session I):\n Simon Bush – Wageningen University – Introduction Nianjun Shen – FAO – Ecolabelling Guidelines Bjorn-Erik Lonn – Nordic Swan Ecolabel Caitlin Peeling – ISEAL Alliance – Codes of Good Practices Hugo Byrnes – GSSI – Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative Karin Bilo – WWF – Sustainable Seafood Guides \nPresentations (Session II):\n Sofie Smedegaard Mathiesen – Danish Fishermen PO – Fisheries Sector Javier Ojeda – FEAP – Aquaculture Sector Mike Mitchell – UK Seafood Industry Alliance – Processing Sector Ondina Afonso – SONAE MC – Retailers Dr Eva Papaioannou – GEOMAR – Environmental Benefits and Impacts Dr. Jose Luis Fernandez Sanchez – University of Cantabria – Market benefits, costs, limitations \nPresentations (Session III):\n Dr Sterenn Luccas – Agrocampus Ouest – Consumers Attitudes Henrik Stenwig- Norwegian Seafood Federation – Environmental Footprinting Helen Duggan – Seafish – Responsible Fishing Scheme Melanie Siggs – GSA – Best Aquaculture Practices & Best Fishery Practices Dr Julio Moron – OPAGAC – Responsible Tuna Fisheries Standard Doug Waley – Eurogroup for Animals – Animal Welfare\n
